Two versions of a bill in the Uniited States Congress would enshrine a journalist’s right to keep his or her sources confidential, effectively banning the government from forcing journalists to reveal whistleblowers. One version though—the House version—gives an incredibly stupid definition of journalist that excludes not only bloggers, but freelancers, independents, and nonprofit journalists as well.

This Just In: U.S. House Says Bloggers Not Journalists
Sunday, March 1st, 2009WiFI hack linked to terrorist attack
Wednesday, July 30th, 2008In his ComputerWorld blog Preston Gralla tells a troublesome tale of how terrorists used a hijacked WiFi connection.
“Think leaving your home WiFi network unprotected is no problem? Think again. Terrorists hacked into the home network of Keith Heywood in Mumbai, India on Saturday, and sent out an email about their impending attack minutes before 19 explosions killed 49 and wounded more than 200 people in Ahmedabad in western India.”

Maxthon Pops Up to Drive Contribution for Earthquake Click Aid
Sunday, May 25th, 2008If a pop-up greets you when you launch Maxthon, it’s because Maxthon’s developers are using the browser to mobilize all you users to contribute to relief funds for victims of the 7.8-magnitude earthquake that struck Wenchuan county, leaving thousands dead and thousands more injured or still trapped under rubble.
The Click Aid screen greeting users is based on the news pop-up that tells Maxthon fans when a new version of the software is available. (And its the same pop-up that helped draw 500,000 votes for Maxthon in the recent Webware 100 competition. The Click Aid pages allow users to view several photographs from the disaster scene accompanied by descriptions that border on th poetic by Kukukuan. You can also click to another page, where you can make a donation through the American Red Cross. The Internet address for the quake relief page is https://american.redcross.org/site/Donation2?idb=756965485&df_id=3198&3198.donation=form1.
The photographs from the quake area may be seen at http://forum.maxthon.com/viewthread.php?tid=72845&page=1#pid433592.
Computer users also have the choice to click through to other disaster relief organizations, including China Red Cross, China Foundation for Poverty Alleviation, Shanghai Charity Foundation, and China Charity Federation.
In the Webware 100 competition, Maxthon received more than 500,000 votes, more than any other other product that was named a Webware 100 winner.
“We’re hoping, of course, that we’ll get the same response – or better — for Click Aid that we did for the Webware contest,” said Jeff Chen, CEO of Maxthon. “If the same people who voted for Maxthon as best browser would just donate one dollar each, that would be half a million dollars for earthquake rescue and relief.”
Maxthon browser is a product of Maxthon International, based in Beijing. It is the second most popular browser in China, behind Microsoft Internet Explorer, and its use is growing in the United States and Europe. The browser’s Web address is http://www.maxthon.com.
