For the second year in a row Maxthon is a top winner in the Webware 100 competition.
Editors at Cnet’s Webware.com evaluated 6,000 Web sites, services and applications nominated by Internet users. From the 6,000 nominees, Webware’s editors selected 300 finalists. Earlier this year, the public began casting their votes for the best 100 products, 10 each in10 categories.
The competition does not release the vote counts for individual winners, but Webware.com Editor Rafe Needleman said that Maxthon was among the top three vote-getters from all categories.
In 2008, Maxthon was the No. 1 overall vote-getter among the Webware 100 winners. Of the nearly two million votes cast, Maxthon received a fourth of them, far more than any other browser–or other software–that was among the nominees.
Jeff Chen, CEO of Maxthon, said, “We’re excited to get this award because it recognizes that Maxthon has been a leader in introducing new features that make browsing easier, faster, and more secure. We’ve also pleased that so many people voted for Maxthon. The number of people all over the world using Maxthon is growing, mostly because of word-of-mouth because it’s simply a better browser.”
This year Maxthon passed the 200 million mark for the number of people who have downloaded Maxthon.
In the Browsing category, other winners included Diigo, Firefox, Flock, Google Chrome, iGoogle, Internet Explorer 8, Opera. Safari, and XMarks.

Congratulations, Maxthon. I’ve used Maxthon professionally and privately for 4-5 years. It has always been my favorite, since I found it on the web. Great flexibility, nice customization features such as keyboard shortcuts and lots of plugins to choose from (I love my Facebook plugin).
However, the latest 2.5 beta seems to have a few bugs (I often have to click twice at links to activate them, etc.). We all want to see Maxthon stay on top, so please do not rest on past success. We, the users, will always appreciate new great features from you, but they must work and your competitors are also doing a great job. One other smaller, but for me important criticism. Too many spelling mistakes in the UI. Check the About dialog box “You already have the lastest version of Maxthon”. Proofreading, please.
