SAN FRANCISCO, April 19, 2011 — The Maxthon 3.0 PC web browser has been given top honors from two of the Internet’s oldest, most respected, and most visited technology publishers — CNET and PC Magazine.

CNET gave Maxthon’s 3.0 browser for Windows a straight five out of five-star score for its overall quality, innovativeness, stability, and ease of use. PC Mag awarded Maxthon for being one of the best free software programs of 2011.

Maxthon CEO Jeff Chen said, “Recognition from CNET and PC Magazine means a great deal to team Maxthon. We’re grateful for it. Speaking personally, I also want to thank our browser team and the many members of the Maxthon community who support our work to make a better browser available across the world.”

CNET’s staff said of Maxthon that the browser “offers a full complement of features and options, and everything we tried worked well.” After giving it high marks for a rapid and easy installation process and feature set, CNET called out Maxthon 3’s sophisticated use of dual rendering engines — Trident and Safari. The former manages older, often IE-optimized web sites. The latter, Trident, manages the rest. Maxthon 3 detects what type of a page it’s opening — Trident or Webkit optimized — and uses the appropriate display engine.

CNET summarized, “It is ‘Maxthon’s use of dual engines’, in a word, cool. This is a unique capability that worked very well. … Browsing to a Web site rendered with WebKit tended to make the difference obvious, with crisp graphics that loaded with lightning speed. We could switch manually between Ultra and Retro Mode, too, for Web sites that didn’t render perfectly in WebKit. Try it for yourself and see what makes Maxthon different before the others catch up.”

PC Mag echoed CNET by once again included Maxthon in its feature story “The Best Free Software of 2011.” Features Editor Eric Griffith wrote, about Maxthon, “You never have to worry about not viewing a Web page properly. Add to that fast performance, multi touch support, integrated tools like an ad blocker and RSS reader, syncing of your settings with the Android version, and you’ve got a freebie worth a look.” The PC Magazine award comes after Maxthon was chosen best small system browser in the About.com Reader’s Choice Award.

The Web site Download Squad tested Maxthon against Google Chrome using several standard browser benchmark tests. The test shows Maxthon beating Chrome “by a hair,” Download Squad reported.
