The Phylakes continuously patrolled the map, always on the hunt for Bayak.
In the early stages of the game, the protagonist’s initial encounters with the Phylakes felt more like a farce than a challenge. Their swift eliminations were almost instantaneous, serving as a brutal reminder that these encounters resembled boss battles designed to hunt players down mercilessly, regardless of their preparedness. Faced with the relentless Phylakes, the protagonist’s instinct for survival shifted entirely towards evasion.
Many video games indulge in power fantasies, and Assassin’s Creed is no exception. The protagonist would infiltrate enemy forts with an air of invincibility, slipping past foes like a wraith, luring them into the darkness only to eliminate them silently. They would scramble off the main path, find cover, and remain utterly still until the thunderous sounds of the Phylakes faded away in the distance.

Yet, this newfound ability lacked the thrill of the fear that had once gripped them. In a game centred around being Egypt’s most lethal assassin, the Phylakes served as a humbling force, and it was precisely this aspect that made them such remarkable adversaries.
